The Seongsu-dong area in Seoul is once again gaining attention. What was once perceived merely as a place for selling clothes is now evolving into a comprehensive cultural complex. Recently, Musinsa officially opened the largest editorial store in South Korea at Seongsui-ro, leading a new trend in the fashion industry. Spanning from the basement to the 4th floor with a total area of 2,000 pyeong, this massive space goes beyond the concept of a simple shopping mall, gathering over 1,000 brands in fashion, beauty, and food and beverage. This can be said to be the result of perfectly combining Musinsa's strengths as an online platform with its offline retail capabilities.
The most notable feature of this superstore is that it is designed not only for customers to purchase products but also to stay for a long time and experience the essence of the brands. The core lies in naturally transplanting the product curation ability verified online into the offline space. On the B1 floor, After Formal and Casual wear, as well as leather shoes, are displayed. From the 1st to the 2nd floor, various categories such as Girls, Back & Cap Club, Eyewear, and Beauty are located. Especially, the 2nd floor is decorated as a dedicated beauty space of about 150 pyeong and is attracting attention as the first offline standalone store equipped with everything from a fragrance zone to a lens shop. It is also notable that opticians are stationed to provide professional services from eye examinations to purchases for customers.
The 3rd and 4th floors are operated as Standard Zone and Sports Specialty Zones, pursuing both category expertise and a stay-type flow. On the 3rd floor, a wide range of categories including Men, Women, Home, and Beauty are configured, and products that were popular online are placed in full at the time of opening to lead customer response. The 4th floor collects sports, running, outdoor specialty brands, and shoes on one floor to enhance consistency, and a food garden is placed together to make shopping and dining one flow. The strategy of selecting and introducing various F&B brands such as Pugglen, Pizza Slice, Ahn Hong Mao, and Tteoksan directly also induces customers to stay in the store longer.
In addition to this physical space composition, participatory content has been embedded throughout the store to enrich the experience of visitors. On the B1 floor, a free coin karaoke called 'Musinsa' is installed. On the 2nd floor, gacha is provided to beauty product purchasers, and welcome gifts are distributed to global members. On the 4th floor, a uniform marking service is also operated to induce customers to experience the space itself beyond simple shopping. Industry experts evaluate this store as a signal that Musinsa's offline strategy has taken a leap, suggesting that the complete form of stay-type retail beyond an online fashion platform has been reached.
A Musinsa official stated that through this opening, they aim to provide the most evolved complex cultural experience to domestic customers and become an essential course for foreign tourists to meet the essence of K-fashion and beauty. The Seongsu Mega Store plans to establish its foothold as a 'hub of fashion and beauty' rather than just a sales outlet. This is a new initiative combining the regional characteristics of Seongsu-dong with Musinsa's brand value, and is expected to suggest the direction of Korean fashion retail in the future.
